After his studies, he worked at the Universities of Kassel, Cologne, Jena and Dortmund, as well as at the Center of Higher Education Developement (CHE – Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung). Stefan Hornbostel is Professor at the Department of Social Sciences (Science Studies) at the Humboldt University of Berlin.
